Four Signs of a Scam
In addition to providing quality financial products and services as well as the latest in digital technology, Safe 1 has a proud and long-standing tradition of delivering consumer education and information designed to protect you from the latest frauds and scams.
With this in mind, below are four strategies used by scammers to defraud you of your hard-earned dollars.
Pretend to be From an Organization You Know
- For example, a scammer might call claiming to be a representative from Safe 1 Credit Union. In such instances, do not be afraid to ask for the individual’s name, title and contact information. For verification purposes, be sure not to call the number provided by the scammer, but rather Safe 1 at (661) 327-3818 and ask to speak to the individual.
Tell You There’s a Problem
- Scammers will tell you there’s a problem with an account(s) and verification is needed. Remember, Safe 1 will never contact you requesting any personal information such as a password, social security number, account number, security code, etc.
Pressure You to Act Immediately!
- Scammers want you to act before you have time to think! If on the phone, you may be requested to relay information, such as a security code sent to your phone or mobile device. Be sure to not share any such information, as the request is not for your protection but rather provides access to your account(s).
- Again, Safe 1 will never ask you for any personal information.
Tell You to Pay a Specific Way
- Scammers love gift cards! Never provide payment by putting money on a gift card, as they are hard to track and easily converted into merchandise that can be resold. If you owe a bill, a legitimate company will not want a gift card for payment.
